Judge Bill Old was elected to the 25th Judicial District of Texas in 2012 and re- elected in 2016 and 2020. He is currently serving in his 11th year on the bench and presides over Guadalupe, Gonzales, Lavaca and Colorado counties. His court is a court of general jurisdiction, which means he hears both criminal and civil cases.
Bill was born in 1961 in Bryan, Texas. His father, Col. William D. Old, II, was a career U.S. Army Officer, and his mother, Carole, was a full-time wife and mother. He has one older sister. He graduated cum laude from the University of Utah in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. He also has an MBA from the University of Texas and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University in 1987.
Prior to being elected, he practiced law for 25 years in Austin, Dallas and Seguin. His legal experience includes family law, criminal law, real estate, wills and probate, and civil litigation.
He has been involved in numerous organizations including:
-Past President, Guadalupe County Bar Association
-Past Vice-President, organizer and Board Member of the Navarro Education Foundation.
-Past Vice-President, Springs Hill Water Supply Corp.
-Past Member, Canyon Regional Water Authority
-Former Deacon, First Baptist Church Austin
-Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts of America
Judge Old is married to local attorney, Sheila Old of The Old Law Firm. They have been married for over 34 years. They have four children: a 5th grade teacher in Austin; a Captain in the U.S. Army; a marketing research analyst in Houston, and an accountant in Denver.
